UNTIED KINGDOM Also know as the Union Jack the flag of Great Britain is actually a merging of the flags of three different countries, united under the same Sovereign. The red cross, outlined in white, is the St. George Cross representing England. Scotland is represented by the white diagonal cross on a blue background, otherwise referred to as the St. Andrew Cross. The red diagonal cross on a white base is the St. Patrick Cross, representing Northern Ireland. This flag was officially adopted in 1801, making it one of the worlds oldest.
