NEW ZEALAND A dark blue field with a Union Jack, representing New Zealand's British Commonwealth heritage, and four five-point red stars, outlined in white, make up this nations flag, which was adopted in 1902 although it was actually introduced in 1869. The Union Jack is appointed to the upper left hand quarter. The stars, positioned at the right, are laid out to represent a southern cross.
