LIBERIA Eleven red (six) and white (white) alternating stripes, arranged horizontally with the red at the top and the bottom, comprise Liberias flag, which was adopted in 1847. These stripes symbolize the eleven signatories of the Liberian declaration of independence. The colors signify courage and moral excellence. The banners top left corner sports a blue square which represents the African mainland Charged at its center is a large white five point star representing the freedom of ex-slaves.
