INDIA Adopted in its present form in 1947, the national flag of India is a horizontal tricolor consisting, in descending order, of a saffron stripe indicating courage and sacrifice, a white stripe representing truth and peace, and a green stripe which stands for faith and chivalry. Centered in the white stripe, in dark blue, is the Ashoka Chakra, a twenty four spoke Buddhist wheel.
