About Us
Duke and Lucille Parish started Capitol Flag Company in 1954 in Austin,Texas (hence the name: Capitol Flag). After 2 years of poor business in Austin they moved to Houston in 1956 to our present location at 4822 Fannin Street in Houston, TX. We originally started out in a 2 story wooden house that was built in 1911 where the family lived upstairs, the office was downstairs and the sewing room was in the garage in the back.
Duke Parish died in 1975 and Lucille had to get up from the sewing machine and learn how to run the office and the books. The business struggled to get over the loss of Duke, but didn’t fail.
In 1982, Duke & Lucilles son, Joe Parish began working at the family business. He noticed that there was a demand for flag poles in addition to the flags that they already sold. Immediately after he started working there, he visited one of the flag pole manufacturing facilities in Texas and from then on, Capitol Flag also sold flagpoles and performed flag pole installation and service.
Our current building was built in 1986, right next door to the previous location, and remains here today where we do quite a bit of sewing, custom applique work as well as flagpole installations and service.
In 2017, Joe & Carols son Austin also joined the family business making him the 3rd generation of the family at Capitol Flag.
While the company has changed over the years, we still follow the basic principles started by Duke & Lucille of treating everyone as family.
